La Asociación de Personas que Conviven con VIH-sida, Asonvihsida, ha obtenido el Premio Cinta Roja 2008. El galardón, concedido por el Programa de Desarrollo de Naciones Unidas, será compartido entre 25 de 550 organizaciones que trabajan en el tema de la promoción y prevención del VIH/Sida.

The Fimizore project in Madagascar was one of the recipient of the 2008 UNAIDS Red Ribbon Award. Balou, a trans-gendered sexual worker and her colleague Jeannie, are members of the project and they both weighed in on their hope and concerns for the conference. Like Kanuma, they both emphasized the need to end marginalization of sexual workers if we want to effectively fight HIV/AIDS.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Rebecca Grynspan, awarded five organizations at the International AIDS Conference for their work in fighting HIV/AIDS. These five organizations came from countries including Malawi, Mexico, Ghana, India, as well as Iran.
