Espolea is a Non-Governmental Organization formed in 2005 to create a space where young people feel free to think, create and perform. Espolea also works to ensure that Mexico has a consolidated agenda for young people that is comprehensive and responsive to their needs and encourages participation of young people locally, nationally and internationally. Their work focuses on three main agendas on issues relating to young people: HIV, gender and drug policy and harm reduction. In the field of HIV, the organisation develops information tools for young people living with HIV and public in general, they also disseminate relevant information about the national and regional perspectives on the global response, human rights of PLHIV and local policies that respond to the needs of key populations and those most affected by the epidemic. The program of drug policy and harm reduction generates critical and objective information that drives the agenda for youth and drug policy in Latin America and generates policy recommendations on sensitive issues such as criminalization, counting the cost of the war against drugs and harm reduction strategies. Finally, the gender program encourages the integration of gender programming and youth issues such as masculinities and women empowerment. |
